CISO Forum - August 2013 - About Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Points of Interest

By Debbie Christofferson
CISO Advisory Council Chair (ISSA)

Although Pennsylvania carries a history as a leader of industrial innovation, this is not your father’s Pittsburgh! Pittsburgh has made itself over and gone green in a big way. It’s a lovely city with plenty of treasures to share:

1. Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens built in 1893.

2. Cultural attractions: The Andy Warhol Museum, the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, the Frick Art & Historical Center which boasts works by Renaissance masters, the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, the Heinz Hall, home to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Senator John Heinz History Center, and Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1935 house, Fallingwater.

3. Pittsburgh’s Sports Venues: Pittsburgh’s sports venues include Heinz Field, home of the NFL’s Steelers; PNC Park, where the Major League’s Pirates take to bat; LEED-certified Consol Energy Center, hosts the NHL’s Penguins.

4. Gaming at the Rivers Casino

5. Lake Erie: Erie, located in the northwest corner of the state on the shores of Lake Erie

Making time to visit more of the state?

You’ll discover even greater treasures which include: Hershey’s chocolate (birthplace), factory & wine tours, Valley Forge National Historic Park, 40 public golf courses, sports venues for the Eagles and Phillies, Lancaster as home of the country’s oldest farmers’ market building, Amish Pennsylvania Dutch Country, the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Raceway, casinos, America’s largest retail mall—King Prussia, historic buildings, the Normandy Farm in Blue Bell, and York’s Harley-Davidson factory. You are also in proximity of New Jersey’s Atlantic City, and the Jersey Shore.
